Earth Abundance
Reception: Friday, April 22, 5-9 (open from to May 14)
Oliva Gallery, 3816 W. Armitage Ave, Chicago
curated by Pauline Kochanski
Oliva Gallery presents for Earth Day 2022, “Earth Abundance”, an exhibition that features the works of local and national artists curated by Pauline Kochanski. A local artist herself, Pauline uses elements from nature in her drawings, ceramics and daily rituals. In this exhibition, she invites the audience to pause and reflect on the beauty of the planet. Pauline recalls, “In 2020, a walk in nature was my only remedy to counteract the feelings of isolation, loss and grief. So Earth Abundance was initiated (born).”
Participating artists were chosen for their personal and creative relationship to nature, either by their choice of materials and art rituals celebrating the Earth or singularly for documenting a weed flourish even when left to its own devices.
The Earth’s Abundance is omni present in the flora, fauna and the waters of our planet. This exhibit is a reminder of its beauty and a call to be kind to her. One art exhibition cannot change the world. But art can be compelling and cause us to pause. It has the power to reflect who we are and who we want to be.
