This is the first of eight installations of Cairn and Cloud: collective expression of trauma and hope, was at Zhou B Art Center, Chicago, in May-June, 2015. Individually carved clay rocks were piled to form the memorial cairn, reminiscent of the cairn I saw in Sweden. Floating above is a luminous cloud of small white porcelain tokens, also hand-made. The dark stoneware rocks and the white tokens were hand-carved and shaped in Shaping Clay, Shaping Life workshops by women, men and children who have experienced trauma and loss. The project continues on our Cairn Project Online Archive. View related news, resources and stories on the Cairn & Cloud Chronicle.
